Vanity Fair Italia - The great actress Greta Garbo lived in this villa before moving to New York. And now it's on the market for $10 million
She was only 36 years old and at the peak of her career when actress Greta Garbo decided to leave the movies and spend her life away from the spotlight, seeing only a few friends in her New York apartment . Before living there however, Divina lived in a splendid villa in Beverly Hills, in the heart of Los Angeles.
This luxurious property resides on the coveted "Crest Street" of Beverly Hills , an area frequented by the American elite. With 6 thoughtfully designed bedrooms and 6 bathrooms , this residence has expansive panoramic views across the city.
Echoes of Hollywood 's golden age resonate within the walls of Greta Garbo's former home, once beloved by the iconic screen legend. Every corner exudes a timeless charm, paying homage to an era of unparalleled charm. The interior blends fine woods and artisan stonework, creating a majestic atmosphere. With sliding glass walls that open onto the outside, the villa blends perfectly with nature and the infinity pool. Below the pool are a pair of grassy terraces, and below, hidden from view and protected by large green foliage and awnings, is an intimate outdoor lounge.
The house was renovated by Nicole Sassaman , world famous designer. The facade is sophisticated and minimalist, while the interior has large floor-to-ceiling glass doors. A custom-made kitchen, a wine cellar and many elegant and large interior spaces are just some of the highlights. There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus a half bath, spread across three floors of the nearly 4,700-square-foot home.
Renovated with attention to preserving the original character and style, the villa features high ceilings and natural stone and hardwood floors. The master suite features a large walk-in closet and a spa- style soaking tub with all the amenities. The fireplace is also original.
The great actress Greta Garbo, who became famous with just 25 films , had decided to abandon Hollywood without giving any reason. Some of her works are milestones in the history of cinema, from Mata Hari (1932), to Queen Christina (1933) up to Anna Karenina (1935). But in 1941, at the height of her popularity, came her big flop with her last film, Don't Betray Me. From that moment her myth begins. She was nominated for an Oscar four times , she was awarded the one for her career in 1955 when she had already been away from the spotlight for about ten years.
Garbo's house was just put back on the market by Markus Canter and Cristie St. James of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties for $10 million.
